Cool stuff

…at least for us

The Saint

When Leslie Charteris published Meet the Tiger! in 1928 he probably didn’t realise for a while what he had begun. Indeed he continued to write stories featuring other heroes for some time before chronicling the exploits of Simon Templar claimed his whole attention.

The Saints—the Saint Kilda Football Club—took their one and only premiership flag in 1966.

They *will* get another (whether we live to see it or not is another matter 🙂 )

The Phantom

From it’s debut in American newspapers on 17 February 1936 Lee Falk’s The Phantom has been one of the world’s most popular comic heroes. Australia has always been a stronghold with Frew Publications holding the distinction of producing the worlds longest unbroken run of Phantom comics from their first issue on 9 September 1948 right through to the present almost 2000 issues later.

There are a few excellent reference sites for The Phantom. Try some of these…

And finally, if you want a daily fix of Phantom for free, (as of May 2025) you can find each day’s current strip at “https://comicskingdom.com/phantom/yyyy-mm-dd” [you will need to replace the “yyyy-mm-dd” portion of the address with the date of the strip you’re looking for]—although you can just go to https://comicskingdom.com/phantom/ and click on the “Read” button it seems to generally find itself OK.

Fred Basset

Created by Scottish cartoonist Alex Graham and first published in July 1963, Fred has been a part of our family for as long as I can remember. Enjoy a new strip each day at gocomics.com
